Hello! Welcome to Little Adventures in Consciousness, where I’m writing about trying to living a more conscious life with my two daughters, who shall be called M and L whilst we’re here.
Lately I’ve realised how much certain ways of living consciously have really seen me through some tough times over the last year or so. But the ideas and practices that are part of that came to me gradually over many years and were not even on my radar when I was younger, so I started wondering what might be possible for kids who grow up in an environment where mindfulness, connection and self-awareness are part of the conversation and maybe even the background to every conversation.
Don’t get me wrong, our house isn’t some kind of zen den and I’m not trying to manufacture two perfect omm-ing mini enlightened beings, I’m just thinking about how to give them as much access as possible to the tools they might need to become conscious, calm, confident adults one day (who knows I might even give myself the tools to be a conscious, calm, confident adult one day… imagining a future with no shouting…ha!)
The Dalai Lama famously said “If every 8 year old in the world is taught meditation, we will eliminate violence from the world within one generation.”
What a beautiful idea and maybe one day it will be possible but for now – on just a slightly smaller scale – we’re going to see if we can find peace in one household of two little girls and one mama…
